Meet our trainers:

Jen Briar

Jen has been involved with animals professionally for over 7 years and has been training family pets for over 3 years. She began her animal training career with the Navy Marine Mammal Program in 2000 after graduating from Eastern Kentucky University. While working with the marine mammals, Jen learned the science behind reward-based animal learning as well as the art of behavior modification.

After her time with the marine mammals, she began conducting training classes that focused on enhancing relationships between families and their pets. In the past 2 years, Jen has been working in a veterinary technician capacity and has seen first hand how a pet’s health and trainability are interrelated: If a pet is unhealthy, then his ability to learn will be directly affected. On the other hand, a pet may be in perfect health and not be an active part of the family due to inappropriate behaviors. Jen believes that animal behavior is related to many aspects of their lives and must be addressed accordingly.

Rose Eagar

Rose Eagar has been a professional dog trainer and obedience instructor since 1988. Rose is a graduate of the Colorado Career Academy, Master Dog Trainer program. She has an extensive background in business and customer service as a former manager for U S West (Qwest) Communications.

She served the Denver area for several years as the only Delta Society Evaluator in the community for Delta’s Pet Partners Program. Delta Society is the only national program that has established screening criteria for visitation programs in nursing homes, hospitals, and rehabilitation.

Rose is actively involved with American Humane Association’s (AHA) Animal Emergency Services. AHA is a national organization responding to national and man-made disasters.

As a supporter of the Denver Dumb Friends League, Rose was an instructor for Obedience and Pet Parenting classes for several years and volunteered for the Pet Behavior hotline and Pet Visitation Programs.

Rose is a long-standing member of Association of Pet Dog Trainers.

Rose focuses on helping owners understand not only how to train their dog, but also how to understand the culture of their companion for more effective communication. She teaches owners how to use this understanding, along with positive reinforcement and consistency, to create a happier human-dog family.

A Certified Massage Therapist, Rose is also trained in providing Acupressure, Massage and TTouch (Tellington Touch) for dogs.

Rose is the founder and owner of Black Dog Training.

Jen Ticsay

Jen Ticsay, owner and founder of Dances with Woofs, earned her Psychology and Sociology degree from Purdue University, where she directed her studies towards the animal behavior field. In addition to her coursework, Jen undertook a research assistantship on an ongoing investigation into wolf behavior at Wolf Park, a North American Wildlife Federation Research Facility. This work, along with her formal education has given Jen a complete understanding of the motivational and functional systems of human and non-human animals, an understanding she has - since 1994 -parlayed into a successful career in pet dog training.

Through her continuing education, Jen is skilled in the use of up to date training methods and equipment which include:

  • Induce and Reward Training Method
  • Clicker Training
  • Conditioned Reinforcement

These methods focus on kindness and positive reinforcement, and reflect Jen’s understanding of the ways in which animals learn. Her knowledge of behavior modification allows her to educate dog owners on the importance of building a caring, respectful relationship between themselves and their pets.

Jen is a skilled professional who makes training fun and personal. Using her formal education, practical experience, and continued motivation to educate others on canine behavior, Jen is committed to providing pet owners with the knowledge they need to live harmoniously with their canine companions.

What you'll learn:

Classes are designed to approach behaviors in a logical order for both family and pet. Classes begin with an informative meeting in which the dogs are not invited. This class is designed to give the families the basics of learning theory, layout the structure of classes, as well as answer any preliminary questions the families may have coming into training. Classes two through seven include the dogs and discuss the following behaviors and how each is taught:

  • Name recognition
  • Reward bridge association
  • Sit
  • Down
  • Stay
  • Settle
  • Come when called
  • Polite leash walking

Classes are run in the reward-based training style. By the end of class, it is expected that all students will have the knowledge necessary to create a pet that is part of the family. In addition to teaching the pet appropriate manners, the behaviors learned in beginning training classes can lead to other pet related activities such as:

  • Agility
  • Rally obedience
  • Flyball
  • Search & rescue
  • Formal obedience
  • Earthdog
  • And more!!!

We invite you to come learn how to enjoy, not just tolerate, the company of your dog!
